William – World Class!

At just 15 years old – William Stedman gave the paralympic world a vision of things to come with his outstanding performances at the IPC World Championships in Doha in late October.

William competed in the T36 400m, 200m and Long Jump. William made the finals of both the 400m and Long Jump, setting a huge Personal Best in the Long Jump where he finished 7th and setting Personal Best, New Zealand Record and Oceania Record in the 400m where he finished 6th despite being the youngest competitor in the race by 10 years!!

William has met the initial qualifying standard for the Rio Olympics but will need to gain an automatic qualifying spot or wait for selection by the New Zealand Olympic Committee before guaranteeing himself a spot at Rio next year.

As a school community we are very proud of William’s achievements and we all wish him the very best as he trains to make Rio a reality!!
