There are many areas in which pupils may be gifted, intellectual, creativity, expression, social/leadership, culture-specific abilities and sport. Highly able pupils from Year 1 to 13 are identified by the teachers early in the year, so that programmes and courses can be arranged.
The co-ordinator for highly able pupils then interviews them and creates individual programmes, with the help of the class/subject teacher. Some programmes are run within the school, for example older pupils studying Art can teach a group of Primary pupils over lunchtime, and some pupils will attend courses and workshops outside school.
Staff are provided with material and ideas to stimulate and extend highly able pupils in their classes.
