Fabulous Fiesta

Come one, come all, to the greatest show on earth! The MGS Fiesta 2017, and what a show! The weather was uncertain, and had Mr. Bisseker scratching his chin an hour before it started: to set up the music, or not to set up the music? That was the question. Providentially, the weather held, and the masses swarmed to finish setting up their stalls. We built it, and they came. Early, in fact. The phones were abuzz to check if the floats were on the way, as customers queued promptly in somewhat restrained anticipation. The attractions included: an immense inflatable slide; a delectable candyfloss stall; popping popcorn; deadly dunk the teacher; terrific trike rides; crafty cards; jingling jewellery; a stall for growing gardeners; a bibliotheca of books; a treasure trove of toys; whimsical white elephants; and numerous hot and cold foods to keep even the hungriest honey bear’s tummy full.

Over the pleasant cacophony of chatter, laughter, and general good will, the dulcet tones of the MGS jazz band could be heard. This set the accordant tone for the evening’s proceedings, and many stopped to sit and be entertained.

Meanwhile, back in The Grange, the baking stalls’ goodies were selling faster than Wonka’s chocolate. The Candyman, or in this case all our master culinary bakers, really did take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it with chocolate, and add a miracle or two. There were definitely no sour buyers at these stalls, only sweet ones.

Throughout it all, the phrase that kept coming to mind was; “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). With all the various stalls, and fiesta goers, you did not need a looking glass to see the smiles, generosity, love, kindness, support, and community spirit. We were brought together in The Spirit to bless our community. Thank you to everyone who came, who supported, who gave of their time and skills, who joined in the frivolity, who took responsibility, who promoted, and who provided. A special thanks to Mrs Bosma, our Circus Ringmaster (a.k.a Fiesta Co-Ordinator Extraordinaire), and the team of efficacious parents and teachers: without you, this show would not be possible. You truly are His hands and feet.
