Vicky was at Middleton Grange for a short but memorable time (1983-1984).
She and her family had moved from the North Island. Her first day at school was the 4th form camp and she embraced and loved every moment of her short time at MGS. Vicky remains friends with many of those she attended school with.
Following a visit to the Careers office and realising her pursuit of nursing was not a good idea (due to her aversion to blood), she was accepted to Teachers College at the end of her 6th form year. The purpose of this was to get into Speech Language Therapy training, which she did.
At the end of her training, Vicky moved to Invercargill to pursue her career as a Speech Language Therapist in Education – thirty six years later, Vicky still lives in Invercargill!
During this time in Invercargill, she has married Shane, made a wide circle of friends, fostered a number of young people, become a ‘Granny’ to 3 precious girls, worked as a Speech Language Therapist, continued her study gaining a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Counselling, and is now the Head of the Guidance Department at James Hargest College.
Vicky was blessed to be born into a Christian family and the choice for her to attend MGS was influenced by this. There was sacrifice involved for her to attend MGS, and she was always grateful for this. The legacy MGS left, as well as the culture of this time (attending the New Life Centre Teens Youth Group!) and her family were foundational in her own life choices and faith journey.
Vicky recently lost her mother to cancer and was reminded once again of the goodness and faithfulness of God in spite of life’s challenges. The Middleton Grange pursuits of compassion, character, service and excellence to the glory of God are truly worthy foundations for a life lived fully and with purpose.
