Girls’ Basketball Back at Nationals

The Senior Girls’ Basketball Team qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Championships for the first time in 12 years by finishing 4th in the South Island Championships. The NZSS Basketball Championships is an elite event, with just the top 24 teams in the country earning their place at the event. This was a fantastic opportunity for our young team to challenge themselves against the best teams in the country, and see first-hand the level they need to attain to be a competitor for the national championship.

The girls found the going tough at times against some very talented North Island teams, but ended the tournament with some very good wins and competitive games under their belt, finishing a respectable 19th in the nation.  With most of the team returning again next year, this experience gives them a great base to build off going into next season.
The qualification tournament for this event is just 3 weeks before the National Championship, meaning teams have to plan and pay for a week long journey to Palmerston North in very short time. This would not have been possible this year without the help of a number of very generous sponsors and donors. Thank you so much for your support!
